Cardiff; a city since 1905 and the capital of Wales since 1955. In the middle ages it was home to just 1500-2000 people, hard to imagine now as it spreads out before you as you climb up to over 1000ft.
The flight takes you over the famous landmarks of the city, including the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Castle and Cardiff Bay, once known as Tiger Bay. As you fly over the Millennium Stadium and Cardiff Arms Park you’ll see why Cardiff is known as a great sporting city, it has been awarded the title of European City of Sport twice.
Cardiff is also a great historic city with Cardiff Castle right in its very heart. There has been a castle on this site for 2000 years, ever since the Roman times.
It’s also a city of culture as well as industry with many well known people hailing from here; authors Roald Dahl, and Ken Follett, entertainer Griff Rhys Jones, musicians and singer Ivor Novello after whom the prestigious Novello Music awards are named, Shirley Bassey and Charlotte Church, sports stars Ryan Giggs, Gareth Bale and Colin Jackson to name just a few.
