Do you remember, or have you heard of, the classic American comedy drama TV series titled MASH?
Set in the Korean war, MASH stands for Mobile Army Surgical Hospital and featured Alan Alda as surgeon ‘Hawkeye’ and Loretta Switt as head nurse ‘Hotlips’ Houlihan. The opening sequence always featured Bell 47 helicopters flying patients in for treatment to the classic tune of ‘Suicide is Painless’.
As well as offering introductory pleasure flights in our Bell 47, for those who want to truly experience the sensation of ‘hands on flying’ a vintage helicopter, this is for you.
There are few of the gadgets and instruments that exist in most modern-day flying machines. The controls are the same but basic, the throttle is manual and navigation is by looking where you are going !
She is also not fast. The huge great big bubble of a cockpit is not streamlined or designed for speed, but it does afford a view that is unsurpassed.
Under the guidance of our senior instructor you will fly her through turns, approaches to the airfield and have an opportunity to try and hover her.
It is helicopter flying in its purest nostalgic form. Come and have a go.
And would you believe it, the callsign of this helicopter is actually G-MASH.
